Research Interests:
Plant Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering: the application of cell and molecular techniques to analysis and improvement of plants.
Research includes plant tissue culture, introduction of foreign genes into plant tissues using Agrobacterium, or by direct gene transfer; selection, regeneration and analysis of transgenic plants. The application of molecular techniques to investigate gene function in plants and to engineer resistance to pests and diseases.
The three major research areas are:
•Molecular plant pathology (viral and fungal pathogens)
•Molecular plant nematology
•Gene mapping/markers to assist plant breeding.
