Research Interests:

Applied

1.Environmental Biotechnology: The use of microbes to deal with issues such as pollution, waste treatment, energy conservation, alternative fuels and chemicals and material deterioration.

2.Industrial Microbiology: Investigation and development of industrial bioprocesses, biological waste treatment.

Fundamental

Understanding the concepts of microbial metabolism; fermentations; life without oxygen. The methods used involve the cultivation of bacterial cultures, various methods of chromatography (GC, HPLC, TLC) and enzymatic analysis. In all projects there is scope for discovering, identifying and describing new species of micro-organisms.
