ResearchThe research we carry out is focussed mainly on Australian and exotic animals. The work covers a range of disciplines, including molecular ecology, systematics and wildlife forensics. The work is very applied (it should have an outcome that can be used by conservation, management or wildlife protection agencies) and is concerned with measuring genetic indicators, rather than being purely theoretical. Current projects include the developing microsatellite markers for a range of species and involvement in the ‘DNA barcodes’ project (for identification of species). In general my interests are in utilising molecular approaches for: illegal trade in wildlife, managing feral pests, island & mainland conservation, species taxonomy, reptile conservation and management. |
