Postgraduate Studies in Applied Molecular Biology

Welcome to the School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology and Postgraduate Workshops and Courses.

On behalf of the School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, I would like to welcome you and introduce you to our Postgraduate workshops and courses.

Learning is a life-long process – postgraduate education and training can follow directly from undergraduate studies, or workshops and courses can be used to upskill after spending time in the workforce or to develop new skills or new directions. This is important because biological and molecular biological sciences are advancing rapidly, and as the basic skills provided in the workshops and courses are generic in nature, they can be applied in many areas; fields of application include plant and animal agriculture, biosecurity, diagnostics, biomedical research and forensics.

The School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology is pleased to offer the following workshops, which can be taken separately for vocational training or as part of the Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Applied Molecular Biology Techniques:

• Introduction to DNA Cloning, Sequencing and Analysis (not for credit)
• High-throughput Genetic Analysis in Diagnostic Biotechnology (for credit)
• Molecular Mapping Techniques in Diagnostic Biotechnology (for credit)
• Proteomics Workshop (for credit)

These workshops and courses are provided with the involvement of staff and researchers at the WA State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC), which is the leading centre in Agricultural Biotechnology in Western Australia. They make use of the state-of-the-art facilities of the SABC in molecular analysis, robotics, genomics and proteomics.

We are planning to expand the Postgraduate Diploma into an MSc in Agricultural Biotechnology for 2007.

Please have a look at what we have to offer – I hope to see you in 2006 when you attend a workshop or course at Murdoch University.

I can be contacted on (61-8) 9360 2424 or by email: m.jones@murdoch.edu.au
